Hi Phillip!

 

For me, Venus is tough to see anything but its phase.  I have tried any number of times to really filter down and look for cloud bands, which are supposed to be visible occasionally, using a deep purple filter.  However, no such luck for me.  The fact that you got a nice disk instead of something simply blown out is an accomplishment.  The additional disks you said were on longer exposures may be from finally getting enough energy in reflections off of glass surfaces to register on your camera's photo cells.

I find a led zeppelin filter works better than a deep purple one.
