Hi,

I have just purchased an LPI and what I thought were stars turn out to be speckles. I get the name effect when the cap is on the LPI. Even if I turn down the gain and offset I still get the same picture. Is this normal with the LPI or is it faulty?

Thanks
Nick

Try putting a light in front of the LPI and see if there is any change.
The LPI should be at gain 100 and offset 50.
Make sure you have good focus and are on a bright star for focusing.
If there are speckles its more than likely bad focus and not a long enough exposure time.

Thanks Mark,

A light causes the image to "max out". I'll try the next clear night and try a longer exposure.

Thanks
Nick

faulty video cables or cables too long will give the same results.

Also strong RF signals/power lines/arcs nearby can enter the system and show as specks, lines, blobs, etc...
