Hey all,

Could you weigh in on the Meade 1220 Field De-rotator?  I would like to increase Alt Az photography to at least 2-4min exposures.  Has anyone had any experience with this item? Or, has anyone heard anything good about it?

Thanks for the time and opinions.

I know that the de-rotators have been used quite extensively for years on the bigger scopes - like the 14" and 16" LX200's with great results. There was alot of discussion on this topic on Rec.Sci.Astronomy quite a few years back...You might want to check the archives there.
Most of us with the smaller scopes (12" and less) have been putting the scope on a wedge and eliminating the requirement for a field de-rotator.

Check out the galleries section.  There is a decent photo of M57 in there and the photographer claims to have used a de-rotator.
