I just purchased a used RCX400 and have some basic questions I hope to get help with. First, I understand that I'm supposed to loosen the RA and DEC controls when the telesope is stored in its foam case, but what about when I'm lifting it from its case? It would seem to me that it would be better to lock the OTA in place when lifting it and setting it on the tripod base. Is this true? Second question, the bolt in the tripod base is spring loaded, but on the base I have it sticks a bit before it retracts when I'm setting the telescope on the base. Could I lubricate the bolt a bit, and if so, with what? Guess I'm a bit worried that I don't want to get any stray lubricants on any of the optics.
