Here's my version of M101 taken with my 8"LX90.  It's combined data from May 2017 from my backyard and shots I made this month on the 20th, 21st and 22nd from the observatory before the moon came up.  I stacked it in Deep Sky Stacker and processed with PhotoShop.

Wow, Steve!  That is really nice! :)

 

I need  to download your image and study it closely.

 

M101 is one of the objects I hope to use in a telescope comparison with four different scopes, all f/8, sizes 60, 100, 114, and 130.  With a modified Polaris 60, I was eventually able to make out some of the spiral.

Thanks Bill. I don't do much visual through the scope any more, other than an occasional look at an alignment star. I did take a peek at M42 a couple of months back and was disappointed at the view.  I guess I have grown too accustomed to the view through the camera.
