Maybe I should elaborate on the issue: I have requested information on the 4AS1 firmware but got no response. I have had problems earlier downloading tours to my AudioStar handset and complained to Meade about the problems I am having. They then replaced my AudioStar and insisted that there is nothing wrong with their AudioStar or Autostar updater. The replacement arrived with A4S1 firmware that made the AutoStar Updater think that it is a 495 AutoStar controller and wanted to update it to 43Eg firmware, very dangerous! With the A4S1 firmware you could absolutely not download or retrieve anything via the AutoStar Updater! By luck I managed to get it to “update” to A3S5 firmware, although this is a lower version than A4S1 at least the ASU now identified it as a 497EP AudioStar. I could now download again but like my original controller with A3S5 firmware, only satellites, comets ,asteroids and some precompiled tours. Any tour written in plain text and then downloaded by the ASU becomes corrupt and is not useable. User data cannot be edited. User objects cannot be retrieved or downloaded because it becomes corrupted. I considered that there may be a compatibility problem with my computer, Windows version and USB/serial port combination. I was surprised to learn that my old ETX AutoStar controller with 43Eg firmware, is compatible with my LX90ACF/GPS. I set it up to work with the LX90 and downloaded the tours that I have written to it, using the same computer combination and AutoStar updater : no problem! They work perfectly! So there’s nothing wrong with my setup. I can now honestly state that :
The AudioStar controller is not compatible with the AutoStar Updater version 6.0.0 . That the AutoStar updater can not even identify a AudioStar with A4S1 firmware let alone work with it! I am glad to see newer firmware than A3S5 but when are we going to see a AudioStar Updater update that can at least identify A4S1 and do the basics that Meade advertised it can ?
