Greetings,

I have this telescope from years ago and am curious if it is worth replacing the mirror. Upon inspection it is stained or tarnished. It is operative and gives a reasonable image but I would like to refurbish it for a better image. Worth doing and, if so, is there a source for a new mirror or a re-coating service recommended?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I am sure there are many places you can purchase a new mirror of that size for about $45, plus shipping. Hands on Optics at www.handsonoptics.com is one of those places. You can also send your mirror to www.1800destiny.com, who does re-coating. The final cost would end up being roughly the same, when you include shipping two ways for your mirror, plus a good chemical cleaning before the re-coat. The new mirror would cost shipping one way instead of two.

Hope this helps!
