I am not sure at this point, after the whole system being hacked.  It may come bulit into the AutoStar Updater program, but it is not shown as a separate download.

You might want to call customer service and see if it bulit into the Updater program or if somebody can give you a good link or send the file attached to an email.

Their phone number is 800-626-3233.

I've had a problem with the updater finding the firmware as its location seems to have changed, but Meade support have given me this link https://www.dropbox....S_1.6d.zip?dl=0 to the 1.6d firmware.

I'm still having issues with the LS-8 reading the SD card though, but it's a step closer.

Thanks for the link.  That is an update from the 1.6a that has been around for a number of years.

unfortunately the firmware did not fix the problem. The scope found GPS and the tried to find North. The OTA pointed to the South. The scope could not locate alignmemnt stars and failed alignment process. I was able to slew to the half moon tonight but scope would not track target. I will be emailing Meade shortly. Kinda bummed.

Sounds like the internal compass is reading backwards somehow....odd.  Yes, the Meade folks need to get involved.

You have my sympathies.

went to an astronomy out reach last night.. Let it find North(which pointed South BTW)< and picked up the scope and turned it 180* around. Tripod and all.. This didn't get me a working alignment but did get me tracking after choosing a target. We saw the moon using a televue 2.5 teleconverter and TMB 8mm planetary eyepiece. That's about 600x's magnification. I give the visitors the controller and let them crater hop. They are amazed! All the other scopes were at 150x's magnification so it was quite the difference. Saw Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn. Positive night even though the scope is malfunctioning.

The optics in one of those is really pretty amazing.  I hope you are able to get the rest of it fixed soon.

Its been a month since I sent my scope in. they shipped it to Mexico for repair. Hopefully it comes back soon and has the new firmware 1.6d version. Once it is finally returned and working I will be investing in quality eyepieces. :D

Firemouth,

As I mentionned in another post, I also received from Meade firmware 1.6d but the weather didin't allow me to test it!  "Menus" seem to remain the same and, so far, I have been able to make the GPS working!

I just read in another post that "autoalign" would be somehow capricious...

Please, give us a feedback as soon as you can!

Thanks

Fran├žois

I got my scope back on 7/5/16.

1st no communication was sent about what they did to the scope. Just a notification that it was being delivered.

2nd, I called customer service and they did not tell me what got done other than my North/level sensor being replaced. I had scratched my scope trying to install the wrong size SD card so this scope has no marks on it.  Everything in  my box looked new and was wrapped in sealed plastic. I believe it is a replacement due to the cosmetics.

I powered up the scope Tuesday night and it did the exact same thing. It pointed South on auto alignment. It failed to align. Frustrated I turned it off and back on. The second attempt worked properly. Not sure why it did not work the first time.

If skies hold clear tonight I will attempt to use it again and see what happens.  I really want this scope to work.

Meade was courteous and polite at all times. i just wish they had a 24 hour tech service or at least one till midnight. How can you trouble shoot problems in the field if theres no one to call?

Thanks for the update!

I hope this one works for you.

It would be interesting to know if the serial number on the scope you received is the same one on your old scope.

If it is the same, I am thinking they may have actually repainted your old scope.

Not important, compared to you receiving a scope that works....just an interesting side-bit on information.
