Just purchased one used and it is missing the threaded rod with the plastic handle on the end
which goes through the Tripod base. Customer support has yet to get back to me with a replacement
part number so I am thinking of just making one.
The thread in the base of the scope appears to be 1/2 inch. Can anyone confirm this or have
a workaround of their own ?

I would bet a vanilla cookie it is metric, but I do not own one so I do not know for sure.  On my LS 8, the rod going down from the tripod base to the leg brace had metric threads.

Well, shucks!!!  However, that is good news for you.  That should be a rather common size.

Made one from1/2 inch threaded rod. A couple of nuts and a washer.
Works like a champ. Also, after a few nights alignment is now spot on.
Thanks for the assistance Mrbadgr and Mark Sibole.
