I have my telescope plugged in to a power source, and when I go to use the handbox to slew it, it doesn't move up or down, and side to side is stuck at maximum. I don't know what is causing this. Could it be the mechanisms, or the Autostar handset?

Any help would be appreciated.

First thing to try: disconnect the power source, flip in the appropriate batteries, and try again! Same problem? It's the electronics. Working fine? It's the power source.

At least, that's how I would troubleshoot this …
Good luck!

After the battery test that Atjous described, try unplugging and plugging back the cord between the handset and the mount several times in case you have a dirty contact there.

Is this scope new or has it been around for a while?

Generally its a bad or coroded cable.Like Bill stated unplug it and plug it in real fast 30 or 40 times to see if it is a corosion issue.
