I'm trying to auto guide using Envisage on a Win8.1 laptop with a USB / COM connection to the 497 autostar controller of an LXD55 mount, but I keep getting port in use errors despite checking the com settings in detail. Confusingly, I am able to connect and control the mount manually using the Remote Handbox program that comes with the Autostar suite using the same settings. ( on the same laptop ).

Any help or advice would be gratefully received .

( I'm using a DSI as the guide camera which seems to be functioning correctly )

Hi David!

Welcome to the forum.  I do not know enough about the program at the level you are working, and know nothing about Windows 8.1, to help you.  Just wanted to make sure someone posted to let you know that your post is being read.  Hopefully, someone who knows about this will come along soon.

Best Regards,

are you trying to connect with multiple programs? If you can connect with the remote handbox program you should be able to connect the guide program. But you can only connect 1 at a time.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try the envisage connection first and see how it goes.

Just a quick update. I've had no COM problems since only using the Envisage without the Handbox controller software running. I also hadn't read the Envisage instructions fully which meant I hadn't drawn a tracking square which invokes the connection. Many thanks for all of the advice - more queries to follow ....

Glad to hear its functioning.Yes you have to box in the star so it knows what to track on. You can use envisage along with the handbox.

if memory serves me correctly as it has been a while you connect to your com port in envisage then when you use the remote handbox you will use the network address /port section set to 127.0.0.1 and port 5401.I may have to double check if that dosnt work for ya.

It has been a while since ive used both programs together.

Mark

Even I had to do some research on it as it has been a while for me.

Here is a basic layout.

You have to start network server then add your settings and let the network settings do the rest.

Steve posted this a while back when we all tested things out during beta testing.
