I am smiling at your arctic white. I guess there is not much light that far North. It makes things darker.

Here it is. Thought I'd show it all with the camera mounting. I got a video on facebook, jut waiting for the link.
With the 2x adapter on the Canon I should be at 2000mm for the camera lense. My son made the extension to fit under the tripod head so in theory if I focus on a star and then aim the camera head to it I should be able to get some decent photos.

video link if this works https://www.facebook...202328911849633

another link to better see the gearing https://www.facebook...&type=2\

We had a slight problem with one of gears warping from the paint but we shimmed it straight and it works smooth.

Wow!!!

The paint is definitely not white, but it still looks good.

If you take that to a star party, you will draw a crowd.

Thanks Bill. I got some touchup to do from scratches but overall it's pretty much ready to use. I appreciate your following the progress and your help.

Wow,, what a neat surprise. My bud gave me a link to a film about John Dobson but I couldn't find the film. Turns out his friend's name is
Jeff Jacobs who filmed Dobson for 2 years and built his own scope. So he asked Jeff where I could find the film and ... gave him a link to my facebook page.. Jeff wrote .. "What a beautiful dobsonian design! Give me your friend's address and I will send him a DVD of my film about John Dobson who created that style of telescope. Best regards.. JJ

I consider that one helluva honor...

That is just the way it works. A new telescope, or in your case a newly redesigned scope, is the best drought breaker there is.
