That is a REALLY good question! I wish I had an answer.

Yup, That's the only part that wears out. You'd think someone would make them available?

There is bound to be someone who does have them. I have investigated a little, but have not found anything suitable yet. If I find something that I think will work, I will post it here.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I found some on www.scopestuff.com. I do not know which one is correct for the Meade 4000 series plossl eyepieces. Even though I could measure, I email them a question about what to order. They require a $10 minimum purchase. That is the only place I have found anything that looks like it would actually work, and I have looked a bunch of places.

I recieved the eye cups from ScopeStuff. It is thier Item Number EYU1. It is a fold down eyecup with a 1.1 inch inside diameter. It fits perfectly on both my 4000 series 12.4 mm and 26 mm plossles. Since there is a little groove that part of the rubber has to fit inside of, it takes a little bit to work one into place. The flared part of the eyecup seems to be a little more flexible than the original. Don't know if that is really good or bad, but it does not seem to hurt anything. The price of $3 each includes shipping. There is a minimum order of $10. The came in a nice little cardboard box, for whatever that is worth.

Hope this helps,

Hi Manny,

You are welcome. Thanks for asking the question. I had been mildly irritated at having slits develop in some of my eye cups and not having a replacement supply available. I just was not irritated enough to get up off of my mental rear end and look for some. You provided the right amount of motivation to go look. Now you and I are both happier.
