Meade is happy to announce the launch of the new LX850.

Building on the foundation of the revolutionary LX800, Meade engineers have taken the next step in developing an easier to use, self-guiding, astro-photographic platform. We’ve kept ...the same innovative concepts like Starlock™ full-time automatic guiding and high-precision pointing, f/8 ACF OTAs with internal Crayford-style two-speed focuser and a portable precision German equatorial mount, but re-engineered it to deliver more performance with less user effort.

For more information go to the web site: www.meade.com/lx850.

I noticed that the LX800 has dropped off the products page.

I am assuming here that the LX850 totally replaces the LX800, and that people who have previously purchased an LX800 that was returned for repair will receive an LX850?

Note: The "StarLocktm" tab on the LX850 page still says "LX800" in the description. Probably either needs to say "LX800 series", "LX850" or just leave that out all together since it's also to be used in the LX600 series scopes.

Correct, all owners of LX800's that had their scopes recalled will receive an LX850 when we ship them back.

Thanks for pointing out the error. There were alot of places where LX800 was mentioned that I had to switch to LX850, I guess I missed a few. It's now fixed.

OK, nit-pick time ;>)

You missed another one -- the LX800 gallery -- should it now be the LX850 gallery?

If I order one of these, do you have an approximate ETA/lead time? I'm in the USA.

We're currently working with our beta testers on isolating/fixing a few issues in the software, once that has been completed i'm sure we'll make an official announcement regarding a ship date.

I know that's not the answer you want to hear but we want to be 100% sure that the product is ready to go before talking about a ship date.

@gspie - Yes, i'll probably need to change that :)

Does anyone know if this version has actually solved the problems with the LX800?

Yeah, that's what I heard too. Unfortunately, I had already purchased one when I bought my LX800.
Too bad I can't use it with my classic LX200.

You can you the micro focuser with the LX200 classic. I use it on mine all the time and my scope is 13 years old.
I just started using the microfocuser about 3 weeks ago.

How do you control it -- mine does not have a control paddle (I think that was with older ones). COuld I perhaps use the control paddle that came with my LX90 electric focuser?

I just plug the focuser into the control panel on the telescope and us the telescope control keypad.
You need to hold down the 5 key while pressing the up or down arrow.
It works perfectly. :)

Never would have thought of the obvious -- I currently use the old-style electric focuser (the one that turn the focus knob). I'll have an extra micro-focuser -- I think I'll give it a try. Thanks.
