I haven't perfected the technique and it may take months or even years but I've FINALLY managed to get better Jupiter snaps with a webcam than I can with a compact digital camera. I hit on the idea of using a variable polarising filter in the imaging train. This reduces the glare quite considerably. Also Sharpcap seems to give better control over brightness than XYAstrocapture, although I prefer the latter for shooting fainter objects, like double stars.
