Whilst it is true that narrowband viewing and photography is one of the greatest innovations in amateur astronomy, there has been a lot of activity in good "old fashioned white light". In England, there has been a lot of thin and thick cloud and it's been possible to see sunspots, whilst being too cloudy for narrowband.
