I managed to get two usable images, in the face of atrocious seeing.  One image is of AR 955, and also shows a small plage area to its north.  The other image is of a fairly complex plage region east of 955. I still have not worked out a scheme to pinpoint the heliographic positions of features. These images are at:

After posting these images, I went to the SOHO site, and looked at a magnetogram from 22:29 UT May 12. I must say that I was very encouraged by the match between the magnetograms and the plage elements seen on my two images.  To the limit of my spatial resolution, there is essentially a one to one match of the plage elements and the magnetogram structures. Of coarse, the magnetograms give us the additional information about the magnetic polarity of the plage elements.  You can easily  define a magnetic neutral line separating the polarities on the magnetogram.  Sometimes you can infer the neutral line from the H-alpha images, especially if there are neutral line filaments in the active regions. The inferred neutral line was a technique developed by McIntosh (and others) as a useful prediction tool for solar flares.

I have revised my page for AR 955, by adding magnetograms taken 20 minutes ahead of my images, obtained by the SOHO (ESA/NASA) spacecraft.  Note the close correspondence of the magnetic field elements and the H-alpha plage elements. Look at the sites:
