Just downloaded v5.0 of Autostar suite. Noticed that the IP program has changed quite a bit, but the help and manuals are out of date. Has anyone got any updated instructions for using the new features such as bin, spectrograph, etc. also I note that it no longer creates new files when you process images. It simply overwrites your existing files. Is there an option somewhere to change this behavoir.

Is this a different version than the one that came with the DSI III?

Meade posted an 80 megabyte "update v5" for AutostarSuite last week (early May 2008).

Unfortunately, it -still- lags behind, since it was apparently assembled in the middle of 2007.

For example, that kit provides Envisage 5.85
But on the Meade Downloads page
http://www.meade.com.../downloads.html
is a link to the 3 megabyte Envisage 7.05
http://www.meade.com...isage_v7.05.exe

There is also some confusion about the MySky-capable AutostarUpdater (ASU).
I believe the one in the "v5" update is one which will -break- the
MySky by including and downloading v12q firmware (which can't handle 2008).

The proper saves-your-MySky updater is (again) linked to from the
main download page, and is fetched from
http://www.meade.com...SKY_Update.html
specifically
http://www.meade.com...y/Au2_mySKY.exe

The ASU2.exe included with the "v5" update was created in August 2007,
and is version 4.85 (under Help/About).
The ASU2.exe included with the MySky-specific download was created in
Dec 2007 and is version 4.88 (under Help/About).
Both include a separate "MySkyUpdate.exe", with similar dates
(i.e. one 4 months older than the other).

The MySky version self-installs in a -different- directory tree than
the AutostarSuite updater.... Meade/Astroware instead of
Meade/AutostarSuite

There are times when i -do- wish Meade could get their act together
in a coherent and consistent fashion...

have (confused) fun

Hell Dick, you've certainly confused me.

Do I take it that the version 5 update is not the same as the version that came with the DSI III.

If it isn't, is it older or newer than the version that came with the DSI III?

I don't know........

I downloaded the Update the other day after completely uninstalling AS and Envisage.

This is what I have now:

AutoStar Suite: Version 5.00 Copyright 2008

Envisage: Version 7.05 Copyright 2005-2007

Even the AutoStar Controller is more up to date than what I had before (sorry, can't remember the versions).

Maybe trying a complete uninstall, and reinstalling?

Oh, it just gets "better"....
A note i just sent to Meade's bug report address:
-------------------
Hi...

What appears to have been a "clean up" or reorganization
of Meade's website broke the current (v4.85 and v4.88) Autostar
Updater's ability to get Tours from the WWW.

The ASU is -looking- for them in:
http://www.meade.com...ostarTourFiles/
..and all it gets are "403 page forbidden"  messages.

Unfortunately where they -are- are now in subdirectories
(if one uses this page:
http://www.meade.com.../autotours.html )
such as "DeepSky", "Catalog" and "Educational"
http://www.meade.com.../NightsBest.mtf
http://www.meade.com...er/marathon.mtf
http://www.meade.com...l/StarsLife.mtf

Please re-open the
http://www.meade.com...ostarTourFiles/
for access, and re-populate it with tours. (.mtf files)

How to see the bug:
(a) start ASU
(:) click "File", click "Import data from WWW..."
© tick the [x] Tour  entry.

The bug also exists for MySky Tours

thanks
